- Flat-tip screwdriver
- Small brush
- Can of compressed air or vacuum cleaner
These are the common tools you will require. Your keyboard should be cleaned with a suitable keyboard cleaner fluid once in a week in order to maintain its top condition. Though thorough cleaning shall be done every two months depending on the usage.
Thorough cleaning by using keyboard cleaner:
1. Turn off the computer and disconnect the keyboard. Shake the keyboard gently to loose out the dust and debris.
2. Remove the keys with the help of a screwdriver. Note down the position of all the keys otherwise you will have problem placing them back accurately. You may want to leave the larger keys such as space bar, enter key, control key, etc untouched, as they are not easy to assemble back. (Take note that thorough cleaning can only be done to standard membrane keyboard. Do not ever try to remove keys from a laptop keyboard.)
3. When all the keys have been removed and placed on side, use a vacuum cleaner or the can of compressed air to remove any dust and grime that trapped underneath the keyboard.

4. Now it’s time to clean each of keys properly with keyboard cleaner fluid. Dampen the lint-free cloth with some keyboard cleaner fluid and gently wipe over all the keys. When done, dry the keys with a dry cloth.
5. Before assemble back the keys, dampen cloth with keyboard cleaner and wipe the surface of the keyboard and other remaining keys. Do not apply the cleaning fluid directly onto the keyboard, this can spoil the keyboard. Give a clean wipe using a dry cloth over the keyboard to remove excess cleaning fluid.
6. Now put the keys back according to your note. Press firmly until the key clicks home.
